How
many times have you heard the adage, "Breakfast is the most important meal
of the day?" This isn't just a saying; eating a healthy breakfast really
does do wonders for your body, including for your energy level and the speed of
your metabolism over the course of the day. Studies have even found that you will
burn more calories working out after a healthy breakfast than you will burn before
you eat, or if your breakfast is not adequate.
Too
many people believe that skipping breakfast will somehow help them. Avoiding excess
calories is an important part of staying healthy, but breakfast is unfortunately
a little too important to simply pass up. You will find that if you begin to eat
hearty, healthy breakfasts every morning, your body will not fatigue as easily,
you will perform better at work, and you will feel better at the gym afterward.
If eating a healthy breakfast can do so much for the body, why on earth would
you pass it up?
There
are many ways to put together a quick but healthy breakfast, and many healthy
breakfast options are portable. A fresh fruit smoothie is a stellar choice if
you have a blender. You can combine your favorite fruits and vegetables with a
little bit of milk, to get a great boost of vitamins, minerals and calcium before
your day begins.
If
you do not have a blender, but want to enjoy milk and fruit in the morning, try
a bowl of a cereal which is high in fiber and low in sugar, and add some nonfat
milk and fresh fruit to the top.
If you have a little bit more time to prepare breakfast in the morning, try one
of these great recipes, which combine a healthy cereal with yogurt, fresh fruit
and even some protein-packed nuts.
Muesli
Tropical Cereal
This
recipe serves between two and four people, and only takes around ten minutes of
preparation time.
* Muesli - Around 4 ounces. * Wheat Flake Cereal - Around 2 ounces. *
Apple - 1 whole apple both peeled and grated. * Yogurt - Around 16-20 ounces,
opt for low fat yogurt, or skim yogurt. * Mango - 1 whole mango peeled and
cut into slices or strips. * Passion Fruit - The pulp only from 2 whole passion
fruits. * Almonds - 1 ½ flaked and toasted almonds.
Mix
the muesli, wheat cereal, grated apple and around 10 ounces of the yogurt in a
bowl. This part should be refrigerated overnight. In the following morning, you
can divide this mixture up into four bowls, then top each one with the remaining
10 ounces of yogurt, the rest of the fruit and the almond flakes. Now it's ready
to serve!
The
Fantastic and Vintage Mango
This recipe is nice and sweet, taking advantage of all of the health benefits
of fruit with a little bit of honey. This recipe makes two services, and has about
a ten minute preparation time.
* Mango - 1 whole mango both peeled and chopped. * Pineapple - ½-1
whole pineapple, chopped. * Papaya - 1 whole papaya both peeled and chopped.
* Kiwi - 2 whole kiwi fruits chopped. * Tropical Fruit Juice - Any variety,
at least 5 ounces. * Honey - 2 tablespoons.
This
is a quick and easy way to begin your day. Once all of your fruits are peeled
and chopped, all you need to do is mix them together and add the juice and honey
to the top.
