We
have a number of people each week, generally Christian program participants (or
potential participants), who've heard of the admittedly amazing positive mental
and emotional changes people experience as a result of the Centerpointe Program,
but are afraid it will somehow challenge their faith, or tempt them to believe
in something that contradicts it.
Nothing
could be further from the truth.
Holosync®
is a tool, just like a bicycle, or a wrench. It makes something you might want
to do easier. It gets you from Point A to Point B, and does it faster and easier
(and more surely) than other methods. And just as with a bicycle or a wrench,
you don't have to believe anything for it to work. If you use it correctly, the
results will follow.
The
results, based on the experience of 20,000 people, are more happiness, greater
inner peace, greater knowledge of self, a sharper mind, increased longevity and
vitality, and relief from depression, anger, fear, anxiety, substance abuse, stress,
and other unpleasant and dysfunctional feelings and behaviors.
When
I started Centerpointe
in 1989, the spotlight was on the fact that Holosync®
can take you into the brain wave patterns of deep meditation, and the only people
who were very interested in Holosync®
were meditators and "New Age" people. So, we directed our support material
to this group, with the addition of a fair amount of scientific background for
those interested in how the technology works from that perspective. We could have
just as easily framed the support material from the point of view of a dozen or
more other thought systems.
The
program is belief-system neutral. It balances the brain, to put it in a very few
words, and that requires no belief on anyone's part, anymore than taking vitamins
requires a certain belief system.
From
an early age, I have been interested in spiritual and religious questions. Clearly,
these kinds of questions, along with religious or spiritual experiences, have
been part of human experience for as long as humans have been recording their
thoughts in some way and handing them down to others who came later. For this
reason I have always felt there must be something more than just airy-fairy nonsense
to spiritual matters. As they say, "20 million Frenchmen can't be wrong."
We live in a hectic
world where stress can build to a major health crisis; luckily meditation is one
of the best tools against stress. If you like what you're reading about Centerpointe

On
the other hand, I've also been intensely interested in scientific thought and
throughout my university education (and after) I have sought out the most rigorous
classes, books, and other material to keep abreast of what scientists are discovering
about a whole variety of subjects, including the origin of life, how the universe
evolves, how the brain works, why humans behave the way they do, and a hundred
other subjects.
In
many ways, my quest has been to reconcile the scientific and the spiritual, based
on the idea that if spiritual experience is real, it can be explained scientifically.
Anyone who reads my writings can see that this is one of the central questions
I'm trying to investigate and answer.
From
the feedback I get from many of you who read what I write, I am not the only one
who is intensely interested in this question, and some of my ideas strike a chord
with you who read and ponder them.
One
of the things that has become apparent to me from both spiritual and scientific
lines of study is that all things are connected. The universe is one giant system
where everything affects everything else.
Yet
our brain cannot take in and comprehend this much detail and interconnectedness.
It's like a telephone system designed to handle calls for a city with a population
of one million, but twenty million (or maybe twenty trillion) people have moved
in, set up household, and their all trying to call at once. (This is why we selectively
block 99.999% of the stimulus we are presented with and with the remainder we
create our own internal map of reality.)
Many
people have speculated that one of the reasons for human aggressiveness and conflict
is that we do not perceive that there is no "other" and we are only
fighting ourself -- we don't see the connections and are therefore able to preceive
others as being other- than-us, at odds with us, against us, a threat to us.
It's
like thinking your own hand was stealing from you when it picks up your wallet
because you couldn't see how it was connected to your arm, and your arm connected
to your body.
Here's
what I'm getting at (you were wondering, weren't you?):
One
of the most amazing affects of using the Centerpointe
program is that in creating new connections between the left and right hemispheres
of the brain -- in other words, through balancing the brain -- your ability to
perceive and comprehend (not intellectually -- though that may happen also --
but more on a gut level) how all things are connected.
This
shows up in increased creativity (seeing how certain ideas are connected) but,
more important, it shows up in a feeling of closeness with others, a experiential
sense of commonality, of shared beingness, for want of a better term. If you're
looking for answers to spiritual questions -- such as "Who am I" and
"What is my relationship to the rest of the Universe?" -- this kind
of increased ability to see how everything works together allows answers to these
questions to come -- not intellectually, but in a different kind of way, a kind
of "knowingness" or intuition.
My
feeling is that wanting to know "what's it all about" is the human reason
behind religions, whether they are Christian, Buddhist, Taoist, Native American,
Hindu, Pagan, or whatever. Until you have the mental equipment, what I like to
call "expanded awareness," to perceive more of what is out there and
how it all fits together, you're just guessing about these questions, or taking
someone else's explanation as true without any real verification.
Saints
and sages throughout the ages (hey, that rhymes!) have claimed they saw or experienced
a level of reality the rest of humanity was not able to perceive. Through whatever
method and for whatever reason (many of them prayed or meditated intensely for
many years), they perceived how things really were (i.e., connected) in a way
others could not.
Did
this not INCREASE their faith?
In
fact, the only thing getting to this more aware place through using Holosync®
could do would be to show you that the faith you might have had in something that
WASN"T really true or real was, in fact, untrue or unreal -- and that would
be a good thing, wouldn't it? Who would want to go around basing their whole existence
on something they were mistaken about!?
Or,
by showing you that what you had faith in WAS true, your faith could be strengthened.
It's
been a long ten years since I started Centerpointe.
In that time, not one person, has ever come to me and told me they had lost their
faith, or that the bottom had dropped out for them spiritually. What has happened,
though, is that many have written or called to tell me they had insights about
who they were and what their place was in the grand scheme of things, and that
as a result their faith was deepened, that they felt closer to God, closer to
other people, and closer to the fabulous mystery that makes up the totality of
all that is.
This
kind of revelation brings (as they say) "a peace that passeth understanding."
Which
is exactly what I wish for you.
Keep
listening to those tapes and CDs, friends.
Be
well.
